About the Project
The City of Toronto, with support from the Canadian government, is protecting against basement flooding in the Fairbank-Silverthorn community. The project involves three important infrastructure improvements:
– installation of new local storm sewers
– construction of a large storm trunk sewer (main tunnel), and
– installation of inlet control devices (ICDs) to manage stormwater flow to catch basins.
A Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM) is being used to construct the new 2.4 km long main tunnel with an internal diameter of 4.5m. The design and construction services are being done by Jacobs, and EBC Bessac carries out the construction.
